On a side note I am also reading the "Kuran" though I don't belong to the religion. Overall I would recommend this book to anyone Hindu or not. Nevertheless, there was and is a reason even for those aspects. Yes, at the same time there are facts that possibly can't be applied in today's world like certain aspects towards women empowerment and how women were expected to conduct themselves in the period when the book was written. The moral the epic brings out is very clear best part is many of these aspects can be still followed today. It is a good historical narrative with men and (Hindu) Gods involved. Overall best if this book can be read twice to ensure you are able to grab all the aspects and assimilate them. He points the different versions of specific stories in existence e.g.story of Karnan meeting Kunti.

And makes it clear that it is purely his views and he leaves the reader to think and decide what suits him/her best. He provides his perspective on different aspects during the narration. I have not read any other book on this but I don't think anyone else would do it as good as Mr. Cho does a great job is making the epic easily readable and also the facts and the crux of each event is narrated very well. H This book in one word is nothing but "awesome".
